Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu iaijutsu.
Our school was created at the end of the Muromachi
period (1590) by Hayashi Jinsuke Shigenobu who lived from 1542 to 1621.
Hayashizaki Originally came from the mountainous region of Yamagata in
Northern Japan and according to the Bugei Ryu-ha Daijiten his family came
from Obashiyama in the Yamato province. Hayashizaki founded his school
after he trained for 100 days at the Hayashizaki shrine and received divine
inspiration from the Hayashizaki Myojin deity. There are many interesting
stories about hayashizaki but sadly most of them seem to be folk stories
since there in no accurate historical records on any of them. Later in
the Meiji era Oe sensei who was the headmaster revised the Eishin ryu in
order to preserve it since there was so many waza and many of them were
either not practiced anymore or were just not deeply known by Oe sensei.
This revised Eishin ryu was passed on to several students who then became
leaders of their own branch. From there it was passed on to Narisei Sakahiro
and then to Miura Takeyuki.
Instructor:
Sebastien Cyr has been studying iaido since 1996
and was trained and graded by Miura Takeyuki Hidefusa who is considered
as the 20th soke (grandmaster) in the line of Masaoka Kazumi. Sebastien
Cyr now holds the rank of sandan and is concentraiting in promoting iaido
in the province of Quebec. He has also been learning kinko ryu shakuhachi
honkyoku since 2000 originally under Matsumoto Yoshio in Montreal and later
under KurahashiYoshio in Kyoto.
